In 2017, Emily proudly earned her high school diploma through NexStep Alliance, a partnership with Goodwill and WSU Tech. Along with certifications as a CNA and Home Health Aide. It was a milestone moment, not only for obtaining her diploma but she also graduated amongst her two younger siblings.
Together, they celebrated overcoming challenges, like the nerve-wracking final math test, which she passed with encouragement and a simple yet powerful reminder from them: “You can do it!”
Fast forward to May 2023, Emily reached another milestone—graduating from Butler Community College with an Associate’s in Exercise Science. Her journey didn’t stop there. She is now pursuing a Bachelor’s Exercise Science at Wichita State University, with plans to complete a Master’s in Athletic Training.
The path to her new dream wasn’t always clear. Initially, Emily’s goal was to become a registered nurse. However, the life-changing events of the COVID-19 pandemic inspired her to shift gears. Realizing her true passion was in sports; she made the life-altering decision to pursue Athletic Training—and it felt like the perfect fit.

Now more determined than ever, Emily is confident she is exactly where she’s meant to be. With her goals firmly in sight, her future is bright.
