How Do I Qualify?

free College Courses!

  • Be a current NexStep student attending classes to earn your GED

  • Score a 530 in Reading and a 520 in Math  on your TABE academic assessments.  There is no charge for this assessment

  • Receive approval from the NexStep Transition Coordinator

What Classes are Offered?

  • This program offers several different options for classes that will prepare you for any one of the following career fields

    • Aerospace Manufacturing (Sheet Metal)​

    • Healthcare

    • Computers (IT)

    • Composites Manufacturing/Repair

    • Welding

    • CNC Operator

What's the Payoff?

  • A Career

    • The goal is for you to graduate NexStep with both a GED and the proper college certifications to get started in an in-demand career that is right for YOU. 

  • College Credit

    • AO-K classes are college-level classes, but not to worry, your GED instructors will be with you every step of the way.

    • You will earn college credit that can transfer to many other accredited Kansas schools.

  • Paid Tuition​

    • AO-K pays your tuition for these classes.  Your obligation is to put in the time and effort to take advantage of the opportunity.

What's the Catch?

  • Time.  You must attend AO-K classes on the same days you also attend your GED classes. 

    • Attend regularly scheduled GED classes as a student in good standingAND 

    • Attend regularly scheduled College/AO-K classes, which is typically 3 hours per day, usually Monday through Friday.
