Objective

NexStep Unlocked

Studies show significant reduction in recidivism when citizens re-entering the community gain education, skills, and gainful employment. NexStep Unlocked is aimed at helping Kansans exiting the system successfully maintain their freedom. This program utilizes NexStep Alliance, a partnership of Goodwill Industries of Kansas and WSU Tech, an accredited adult education program allowing qualified participants the opportunity to study a technical career and earn their high school diploma upon completion. With guidance, they will move into an in-demand career to support their goals and family.

Individuals on probation/parole may apply to the program through their probation/parole officer.

How Unlocked Works

With the support of various community partners, NexStep Unlocked utilizes a three-tiered system to help students achieve their goals.

Education

Goodwill-authored legislation allows participants immediate, tuition-paid access to fully-accredited college classes that result in industry certifications and a Kansas High School Diploma.

Life Skills

Turning a job into a career takes training in communication, problem solving, digital skills, and personal finances. We provide life skills training that covers all of these important topics and more.

The end goal of our program is providing participants with a career – not just a job that comes and goes with the circumstances but a path to sustainable and lasting changes in their lives.
